Baseball has never seen a player like Shohei Ohtani. The baseball unicorn is not only the first in MLB history in the 50-50 club, Ohtani has led the National League in several record-breaking stats. He has led the NL in home runs, RBI, runs, on-base percentage (OBP), slugging percentage (SLG), on-base plus slugging (OPS), extra base hits (XBH), total bases (TB) and wins above-replacement (WAR).
To top it off, Shohei Ohtani also broke records with baseball fans as the MLB player with the most jersey sales. When you look at his last seven games, the Dodgers designated hitter’s stats got even more phenomenal than they already were for the season.
Is it any wonder why Shohei Ohtani is the odds-on favorite to be named the National League MVP? And if he does, Ohtani will be the first designated hitter in MLB history to earn that honor as well.
