Shotime keeps getting better and better! Enthralled sports fans are witnessing Shohei Ohtani about to make baseball history once again. The Dodgers designated hitter needs only one more home run and one stolen base to join the elite 40-40 club.
Ohtani stole his 38th and 39th bases in the August 21 game against the Seattle Mariners. “He’s now a home run and stolen base away from becoming the first 40/40 player in Dodgers history,” noted Doug McKain on Twitter.
The 40-40 club is one of the most elite stats in baseball. When Ohtani joins the elite club, our favorite baseball player will be only the sixth in MLB history to do it. Very few players have the power to hit 40 home runs and the speed to make 40 stolen bases in one season. In the illustrious achievement, Ohtani will soon be joining Jose Canseco, Barry Bonds, Alex Rodrigues, Alfonso Soriano and Ronald Acuña, Jr.
With only a home run and stolen base away, Shohei will be the first Dodger and the first Japanese-born player in the 40-40 club. Finishing his 125th game of the season, Ohtani is on pace to also reach the milestone in the least amount of games.
